Video usage has exploded over the last few years, and their popularity is far from confined to video sharing platforms or social media. Due to their high engagement and viewership levels, videos can be found on blogs more and more frequently, and if you haven’t already started using them on yours then you should - soon.
Seeing as Blogger is such a capable platform it should come as no surprise that it has all the tools you need to upload and publish videos. In fact it will even make it fairly easy for you to do so – but there are a few things that you should know before you start.
The first thing that you should know is that there are two general ways to publish videos on Blogger: Embedding it from video sharing platforms (such as
YouTube), or uploading it and publishing it directly. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but here and now we’re going to deal with the latter – though there are some similarities between the two as you’ll soon see.
Preparing a Video for Blogger
Although Blogger doesn’t have any strict requirements for uploading videos, the one limitation that you’re likely to run across is that your videos need to be under 100 MB in size. If the video that you intend to publish is any larger than that you will want to compress it by using a
codec that offers better compression (i.e. H.264) or reducing the resolution and bitrate.
Aside from that, Blogger is actually fairly liberal with its other requirements. It tends to support most popular video formats, so you will have no problem uploading videos in MOV, AVI, MP4, or WMV. As far as codecs go it also supports most of the popular ones, and you shouldn’t run into any issues.
In short, the file size is normally the thing that you need to concern yourself with when preparing videos for Blogger. If it is a problem, you should try using H.264 and MP4 to compress it initially, and if that isn’t enough then you can also reduce the resolution, bitrate or frame rate.
Uploading and Posting a Video on Blogger
Assuming your video is prepared (i.e. under 100 MB) then you can upload it to Blogger and insert it into a post at the same time. The user-friendly nature of blogger simplifies things somewhat, and you can add a video to your post directly from the post editor itself, and it will be uploaded as you do.
Needless to say to start with you’ll have to sign in to
Blogger, select your blog and then either create a new post or edit one that you want to add a video to. Once you do that all that remains is to:
- Click on the ‘Insert Video’ icon that looks like a clipboard.
- Select ‘Upload’ and locate the video file that you want to publish.
- Adjust the size if necessary by changing the ‘width’ and ‘height’ values in the code.
- Publish the post whenever you are done.
When you do choose to insert a video, you may notice that Blogger also has several other options that you can choose from – including to use videos from your phone or webcam. Sometimes it can be more convenient to use these options, and they’ll essentially upload the video from those devices.
At the same time Blogger also has other options that will let you search for and use videos from YouTube, or use videos that you uploaded to YouTube previously. That is what you’d opt for if you wanted to embed the video – so you’ll have that option too.
Using Instant Upload on Mobile Devices
As much as Blogger will allow you to upload videos from your phone as highlighted above, there are some ways to make it a bit more convenient. More specifically, you could instantly upload videos that you record on mobile devices and then choose to publish them on your blog.
To do that you will want to use the
Google+ App for Android or
iOS. It has a feature known as ‘Instant Upload’ that you will be prompted to enable when you first launch it, and can then select whether to upload videos over WiFi only or using mobile networks too.
If you didn’t enable the feature when you first launched Google+, you can find it in the settings and turn it on there. Just remember that with this feature enabled any videos (or photos) that you capture with your phone will be uploaded to a private album – which in some cases may not be what you want.
Assuming you do use Google+ to instantly upload videos, you can publish them in much the same way as before. The benefit is that they’ll already have been transferred to Google, and so you won’t have to go wait as they are uploaded.
Of course if you are going to want to start publishing videos on your blog the first step is to create them, and Movavi Video Suite will be perfect for that task. It contains a wide range of tools that will let you record, edit, and produce amazing videos – without having to jump through any hoops.
Essentially you could opt to use existing video footage from your camera or smartphone to create videos, or you could record your screen or webcam, create a slideshow, or digitize VHS tapes. Once you have the raw footage, you can then use the features in Movavi Video Suite to cut and join segments, improve its quality, apply special effects, insert audio tracks, and much more.
When you are done, you will be able to save it using a video format and settings that are perfect for Blogger. Of course Movavi Video Suite will have other options too, and you could even burn it to a DVD by following the steps at
https://www.movavi.com/support/how-to/how-to-burn-video-to-disc.html. At the end of the day it is up to you, but suffice to say you should have no problem creating some great content for your blog with it.
